This year gencon will run from August 5-8

This is the thread for 2010 Gencon Planning!!


Aside from all the non magic related things, (which there are many & many) there are 24/7 Drafts going on at all times, Vintage Championships, Legacy Championships, infinite standard games!! plus tournaments for just about every other version of magic out there


The Schedule:

Idealy this is how it will go down

Wednesday August 4th Leave North Bay at 7am (its roughly a 14 hour drive with stops)
Arrive in Indianapolis 10pm Wednesday night
Thursday Leave for the convention center around 9am (may vary depending on events) Pick up badges, HAVE FUN
Friday & Saturday wont matter since we will just be playing magic etc all day, arrive at the convention center in the morning, don't leave till the evening!!

Sunday August 8th: depending on what everyone wants to do, events etc we will likely leave on the afternoon of the 8th for the long drive home!




COSTS:


Obviously the most important part!!

Passport: (this is a requirement to cross the border, if you dont have it you will NEED it if you wish to come along) 80$ for passport 0$ if you already have one


Gencon Badge: I bought mine today pre-register
Total Billing: $72.08 (this is USD) since we live in Canada, we just pick up our badges up when we arrive on the 4th or 5th

Event tickets: this are roughly 10$ a pop some events cost more 15$ aside from drafts I wouldn't expect to play more then 2 - 3 events a day

~$40/day events


Food: I found I spent about 40$ a day on food, there is pizza and stuff on site, as well as about 20 restaurants within walking distance!!

Parking: we park at the beginning of the day and stay till the evening, parking ranges from $10 - $20 a day, OR I was thinking of getting a 1 month parking pass for the parking lot directly across from the convention center which would allow us to leave and return & to be parked across the street, while the other parking lots are 2 - 3 blocks away which will cost about $125 for the whole month of august


either way its about $25 a person for parking


TRAVEL/GAS: The plan is to take my vehicle at the moment, gencon is roughly around a 2500km round trip + city driving which roughly calculates to 8 tanks of gas and @ $60 a tank = $480 in gas

so at 4 people it would be around $120 for gas (this is tentative based on gas prices and vehicle)


Hotel: My plan is to book via price line close to the date of the event like last year. while the hotel is a 15 minute drive away, its much cheaper 4 Nights @ $80-90/night works out to around $80 - $90/person


MISC SPENDING: you will want to spend money on stuff while your their I would plan to spend a MINIMUM of $100 likely more

BREAKDOWN:

(all costs are in USD and are based on 4 people thus this also reflects that)

TOTAL $565


This is a bare minimum I will be personally bringing around $800 but I also want to be able to buy some nice things



Requirements: PASSPORT (no exceptions) PRE-Registered Badge

Down Payment: Anyone who is interested in going will be subjected to a $100 deposit, this is to

A. ensure that I dont get screwed
B. Pay for Hotel
C. So I dont get screwed

The Deposit will go to pay for your hotel, if you cancel you will only receive your deposit back IF your seat it filled.


At the moment I want to fit 4 people in the car, I would like to get 2 guys from the North Bay crew to join along, this is why I am asking for a deposit, this is a lot of planning and its REAL easy for people to say they want to come and then bail out 1 month before the event

I know a player in TO who wants to come with us in our car if there is room, IF there is still space by tMay 1st 2010 Then the seats will be available for Toronto/Sudbury players.
